Suprematism

In 1915, at the 0,10 exhibition in Petrograd, Malevich showed a painting of a single black square on a white ground — and hung it high in the corner of the room, the spot where Russian homes traditionally place an icon. Whatever is left once you've thrown out everything you might paint, set where the sacred belongs. It's one of the furthest points abstraction ever reached.
