Deutscher Werkbund
Founded in Munich in October 1907, it sat artists, craftsmen and manufacturers down at the same table. Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement turned their backs on the machine; this group tried to make the machine and the hand work together. The machine is not going away, so the things it makes had better be beautiful — what the Bauhaus set out to do had already begun here, twelve years earlier. The association was dissolved in 1934 and re-established after the war, in 1950.
